The 2025 MAKE Commercial Animation Workshop wraps with two finished commercial spots and a closer look at how one of them came together.
We split selected artists into dedicated 2D and 3D teams, with each team developing its own commercial animation spec spot.
The Brief
The 2D team took on a brief where crayons weren’t just the product, they were the medium. The team created every frame using real crayons, leaning into texture, movement, and imperfections instead of polishing them away.
Meanwhile, the 3D team developed a nostalgic, high-energy campaign inspired by the oversized personality of classic kids commercials and packed it with larger-than-life energy.

The Making of
Alongside the final spot, MAKE is also sharing The Making of the Crayola Brief, a behind-the-scenes look at the process. Arguably, the biggest reward is seeing how much the process itself grew on the students. They learned how to build something together like a professional creative team and, in a lot of ways... just trust the process.
The Bigger Takeaway
Beyond the final spots, this workshop isn’t just about making a cool portfolio piece, but rather the bigger takeaway is learning how commercial production actually works and, in this case, stepping outside your comfort zone to create something you never would’ve thought to MAKE.
