Yo-Kai what? Japanese mythology, cool anime shows and video games, collectable monsters —all contained within a watch. This was a roller coaster ride where we were tasked to blend live action with the anime world of Yo-Kai. Have some fun and take a watch!
Yo-Kai has it all; a cool watch, a mobile app, collectable items, and our favorite part—traditional hand drawn animation. There were quite a number of Yo-Kai Monster designs for us to sink our teeth into, The breakneck pace and exciting compositions made all of the 2d effects a dazzling spectacle. This was a fun crash course in reproducing an appealing anime style.
VISUAL DEVELOPMENT
Yo-Kai had an established style that we went to great lengths to match. Clear economic lines, decisive colors and rich character designs. Our main goal here was to create something that lived in the world of the show and that could be interpreted faithfully in both live-action and 2d methods.
NO SHORTCUTS
There are no shortcuts to good drawing. Anime is known best for its economic model of animation and design—clean lines, iconic color choices, low frame rate, clear iconic expressions. From rough animation to final linework, we love the tried and true methods that will make an authentic anime style pop.
