THE DESTRUCTION INVITATIONAL
It’s time for the 2022 HWMT Destruction Invitational, a televised event featuring Monster Trucks invited to compete for the title of champion. It plays out like an extreme sports TV event with a flashy, hard rockin’ title sequence to introduce the latest collection of Hot Wheels Monster Trucks. On a massive, downhill gauntlet of destruction, each truck gets a chance to shine as they show off with cool stunts and cause maximum mayhem.
Our Destruction Invitational has two parts. The first part is a chain of Monster Truck introductions replete with cool stunts and animated logos that match the personality of each truck. The second part is a destruction derby and race down a mountainous obstacle course. When we brought these two parts together, we created an epic extreme sports event that shows off the entire line of Monster Trucks.
BEHIND THE SCENE
We created a themed introduction for each truck complete with themed graphics. With a combination of live-action push play, CG animated sequences and animated logos, we gave each truck a unique, destruction filled Intro that rolls out the red, mud streaked carpet for the entire Monster Trucks line up.
We created 3D animatics with accurate cad models of the toys to help visualize the entire sequence. We choreograph our toy stunts in an accurate 3D space so that each stunt can be reproduced in a live-action setting. We make sure each action is crystal clear and staged with a supportive background that is dialed in to make each introduction dynamic.
After we have nailed down our animatic, we used green screen stages with slopes and obstacles to give each Monster Truck a dynamic tumble or crash. We then add our digital backgrounds and effects animation in post.
FANTASY ANIMATION
Our fantasy animation sequences are made with many passes that all tell the story of the main heroic action. We use the same digitals sets that we use for our live-action plates so that the entire sequence feels cohesive. Then we add destructive objects, dust clouds and other effects to make the action pop.
