The Story
So you are having a quiet night by the fire and you hear a thump on your roof; It can’t be Santa, can it? This is our spin on a much imagined question, “What if Santa got stuck?” Each story beat is made to convey a warm, cozy and iconic view of an enchanting Christmas night that is fraught with unexpected obstacles.
VISUAL DEVELOPMENT
We use an iterative process where we first focus on concept art that tells a quaint Christmas story. In this world, everything is a little bit off; Our bachelor is kind of derpy with a beer belly, our Santa is missing a shoe, the tree is too tall for the room and the reindeer are wall-eyed. These small details make the story more unexpected and fun. We then build our story through iterations of 2D and 3D animatics.
Concept Art and Models
The interior of this bachelors house is cozy, warm and inviting. Out there, in the dead of winter, it is a cold and enchanting Christmas eve. We wanted the contrast of the cozy vs the cold to be felt throughout the art. Our CG models and assets were made to feel illustrated and cartoony.
