Lucy is upbeat, positive, and community driven and she has a lot riding on her walk. With her teddy bear, her friends, family and neighbors she fearlessly searches for a way to cure Scleroderma. This is her invitation to becoming part of this resilient community.
Occasionally we find a non-profit that we really want to contribute to in a meaningful way. So we reached out to the Scleroderma Foundation's Minnesota Chapter to see if they wanted an amplified message for one of their fundraising walks. This is a motion graphic journey with a friendly, effervescent illustration style that uses hand-drawn textures with crisp shapes and colors to bring us on a walk through Lucy’s neighborhood.
While most of our textures are produced by hand, we made our characters with a blend of 2D and 3D techniques. In our motion graphic scenes we layered 3D passes of color, lines and shadows with animated textures to produce an illustrated look that could move convincingly in a dimensional way.
Having a 3D model of the character meant that we could dial in the performance and add flourishes and details that feel charming, buoyant and full of positive energy. From our hand-drawn boards, to the finished hybrid of 2D and 3D characters, the end result was a playful view of the community from a child's perspective and style.
