Two—very different— worlds collide as Angry Birds fuses with the Star Wars universe. This is something of a Return of the Telepods, bringing us classic Star Wars characters in Angry Bird form. We had a blast blending these worlds together for the Angry Birds Telepods, figures, playsets and apps.
This was the second part of our work on Angry Birds Go Telepods. A tablet from the real world gives us a window into the Angry Birds Star Wars game.If the tablet was the impassable window keeping a grumpy Yoda from an amused Darth Vader, the telepods were the door to a world of dynamic action and peril. This brought our 2D artists and 3D artists to create something special for Angry Birds Telepods.
The key feature we wanted to show off here was how the Angry Birds Teleport into the Star Wars Universe and into the tablet to join the action. This meant there was a 3D vinyl version of the Angry Birds that we brought to life in a live action world. Once transported, we brought to life 2D versions of the characters based on the designs from the Angry Birds Star Wars game.
The stackable and tumbling world of Angry Birds has its own iconography and look that we had to infuse with our imagining of the Star Wars world. The iconic Death Star Trench Run was the basis for designs surrounding the look of the Angry Birds Star Wars. This world is at once formidable and prone to fantastic amounts of destruction.
This is a silly world. Our characters were built to deform and emote in ways that were absurd, humorous and on model. We try not to take ourselves too seriously, so we had fun making these models come alive and pushing them to the limits of the quirky humor so championed by Angry Birds.
