Out there in the wilderness, it's just your ride and harsh elements. For the Altera 600, we wanted to clear away all the distractions and give a raw experience that focuses on the essentials. This is the early release of the Altera 600 as it conquers the elements in a stark and fast-paced trek through the water, the mud and the snow.
This is our first look at the Altera 600. Our CG model needed a couple of different looks to accommodate its rugged journey through the elements. We needed a brand new version to look sleek and formidable, we needed a version with mud caked tires and then a version blasted with snow. This is a ride that can weather all the elements.
Our piece is focused on the challenge of the elements, so we put our energy into making various terrains that put the Altera through its paces. From creek beds, to snow covered rocks, we sought to create variations in the landscape that make the land a sudden and exciting challenge.
We produce 3D animatics that help us visualize the action and best ways to showcase the Altera 600. This is all about finding the sweet angles, dynamic compositions and opportunities for dramatic lighting and details. After our visualization is done, we can really get our hands dirty and dig into the details, finesse and polish that we get to see in the final piece.
Each moment of the Altera 600’s journey is broken down into passes. We first make sure the Altera 600 looks its best in the shot and lock down the camera move. Then we work in iterations and passes where we add details like simulated fluid dynamics, rugged terrain and complex light rigs that shine from the Altera’s headlights.
Each piece of terrain received its own treatment and design that articulated the particular character and rugged challenges. Here we wanted to feel the Altera 600 cresting a hill of snow. So we choreographed all the details, from headlights blaring through snow flurries, to dynamic tire tracks in the snow, we made the effects and light tell a story of a rugged adventure.
