This unjust conversation plays out many times a day across the U.S. every single day. Someone, somewhere is ripping a new one and then blaming their dog when they get caught. Well the dogs have had enough, and we were bound by our moral duty to help Dulcogas give these dogs a voice. And gosh darn it, they’re going to be heard!
Our Dulcogas campaign gives a voice to three disgruntled dogs who are tired of being blamed for every errant stink cloud in the home. We thought this was a unique way to have a...delicate conversation. This story focuses on the dog’s point of view as they emote, speak and feel injustice just like humans do. We balance humor and nuanced performances with the need for effortless realism. Let's just say the process was hairy and leave it at that.
We asked ourselves, “what would two dogs picketing their most important issues on their front lawn look like.” It would look cute, charming and kind of adorable. We visit the iconic places of every dog's home, the dog house, the living room and the backyard. We gave each dog a distinct personality and voice, blending digital replicas of the heads with the real dog's bodies.
To sum up, they are real dogs with animated heads. Pretty much everything above the collar was made by our VFX team. It was important to capture all the nuances of hair and light as we captured each dog's exact identity and personality.
We captured our talented and heroic dogs on location to provide accurate reference and precisely staged plates. Using these references, we set out to create animatable models of each dog's head. This requires attention to a lots of different kinds of details; from hair and fur simulation, teeth, gums, tongues, eyeballs, emotive ears and so on.
Take a look at our digital overlay and peek behind the curtain to see how it matches our real life dog. Super cute. This is a test we did to showcase all that goes into making our furry little guy talk about a revolution.
