On their own, these figures have a powerful presence. It is when they combine their powers into a larger and more powerful figure that really amps up our excitement. We made a couple of dynamic choices to really boost the toy’s presence. Flipping between backgrounds makes it feel like we can take the fun anywhere. The unexpected way this flipping transition unfolds reflects the function of the toy and reinforces its most appealing features.
3D EARTHSPARK SETS
We made environments that would give us flexibility in building our flip transitions. The solution that offered the most flexibility was to build 3D sets to place behind our talent. By building 3d sets we can deliver more flexible camera work that lends additional physicality for the flip transitions.

COMPOSITING
The real world and the Earthspark world are two sides of the same coin. Flipping between them is fun and unexpected. This flip transition between worlds needs a fun physicality that makes it feel like our world is flipping upside down. Part of this effect is having convincing animation, performance and compositing work together to deliver a gravity defying effect.
ENVIROMENTS
We wanted environments that reflected the real world and fantasy/toy world of Earthspark. The technology and lab set was inspired by the look and feel of the Transformers Earthspark show, which has sleek and simple mechanical surfaces, screen glows and minimal color pallets.We could also tailor the details to better reflect the show while still customizing some details for brand recognition. The real world is represented by a living room. Both were modeled in 3D so that we could better stage the details and allow the toys and performances to shine through.
COMBINE AND CONQUER!
Four figures with amazing Transformers combinations. Everything about this toy flipped our expectations upside down. We loved putting together an exciting and yet simple way to celebrate the toy’s features and how it inspires epic transformers battles.
